Sidley Partner Recognized For Best Lawyers Under 40?

The legal industry is a male-dominated space, but that doesn’t mean women can’t make a name for themselves in the field. One of the most famous female lawyers in Canada these days is Sarah Eady, who works at Siskinds LLP and was recognized by Canadian Lawyer Magazine as one of their “Top 40 under 40” lawyers to watch. She earned her law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2015 before landing a job with Siskinds after graduation, where she has been praised for helping clients navigate complex civil litigation. But while Ms. Eady might be celebrated by her fellow peers, she still harbors some very strong opinions about sexism within the legal profession:

Sarah Eady: I think it’s funny how people put up this facade that we’re all going out to have fun together and talk about our cases—and date each other—when everyone knows there are so many guys who get off on being dominant toward us because they think we’ll get uncomfortable or shocked if they don’t get what they want when they want it…I’ve been told by more than one person “you shouldn’t go out with any of those men,” because once you start dating them you’ll lose your autonomy in court and then you won’t be able to give 100 per cent like I do now.” To me that’s not empowerment; it’s fear-mongering; we’re expected to always put our careers first —
