The jury in the ongoing civil trial between former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara and his former boss, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, is out on that question.

On one hand, it seems like a slam dunk: The governor fired Bharara; he sued him; it looks like the case will go to trial; if Bharara wins, it would be yet another embarrassment for Cuomo (he also vetoed critical legislation); and it could lead to the release of secret recordings made by whistleblowers inside Governor’s Office of General Counsel — possibly including ones involving high-level conversations about payoffs or other impropriety with real estate developers who were once close friends of state right-wingers such as Carl Paladino and Donald Trump Jr.
