It’s a good question. Here are our best lawyers in each category:
In the “backgrounds” category, we have Boies Schiller Flexner LLP partners David Boies and Theodore Boutrous, who were named New York Law Journal’s “Rising Stars” last year. Boies has been described as one of the most influential litigators of his generation and Boutrous is a highly regarded trial lawyer with deep knowledge in both commercial litigation and white-collar criminal defense.
We also have Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom partner Daniel Sussman, a member of The National Law Journal’s 40 Under 40 list for 2012, who got into that publication because he was recognized by friends more than for any professional accomplishment (he spent part of his childhood recovering from an illness). He serves on several boards including NYU School of Medicine Foundation; NYU Langone Medical Center; Weill Cornell Medical College; City University; Public Advocate; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; New York Lawyers for the Arts (a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve arts education); WNET (the PBS affiliate station); Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) Board Of Trustees. That kind of dedication might seem like overkill but it tells you what sort of person he is – very giving without expecting anything back…and it helps explain why Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom remains at or near the top when firms do diversity hiring.
